The Legal Tread Limit
1.6mm is the legal minimum across the central three-quarters of the tyre, around its full circumference. Driving below it risks a £2,500 fine and 3 penalty points per tyre. We recommend replacing at 3mm, since stopping distances increase noticeably below that.
