Not Sure Which Service You Need?

Had a full service in the last 12 months, but drive 12,000+ miles a year?

High-mileage drivers wear through oil and filters faster. A mid-year interim keeps your engine protected between annual services.

Book an Interim — From £129

Is it roughly 12 months or 12,000 miles since your last service?

The full service is what most drivers need once a year. It covers everything your manufacturer recommends at the annual interval and preserves your warranty.

Book a Full Service — From £169

Not been serviced in over 2 years, or approaching 24,000 miles since last service?

A major service brings everything back up to standard. It includes items that degrade on a 2-year cycle — coolant, cabin filter, fuel filter — plus a full inspection.

The most misunderstood rule in motoring

Your Manufacturer Warranty — You Don't Have to Use a Dealer

Thousands of UK drivers pay £150–£400 more per service at a dealership because they believe going elsewhere will void their warranty. This is a myth — and UK law has protected your right to choose any qualified garage since 2002.

The myth

"If I don't service my new car at the dealership, I'll void my warranty."

This is what dealers want you to believe — and many genuinely repeat it without knowing it's legally incorrect. Millions of UK drivers overpay every year as a result.

Widely believed · Legally false
The fact

"UK law protects your right to service at any qualified independent garage."

Under EU Block Exemption Regulation 461/2010 — retained in UK law — a manufacturer cannot void your warranty solely because you chose an independent garage, provided manufacturer-specification parts and oils are used and records are kept. This has been the law since 2010.

What the Law Actually Says

Block Exemption Regulation 461/2010 was introduced specifically to prevent car manufacturers from forcing owners to use dealer networks for routine servicing. The key rule is straightforward: a manufacturer cannot cancel your warranty because you had your car serviced by a qualified independent garage.

There are only two conditions: the garage must use parts and lubricants meeting the manufacturer's specification, and must keep a proper service record. At Ace Tyres we meet both conditions on every service, for every car we work on.

"A supplier may not restrict the freedom of a purchaser of motor vehicles to take those vehicles for repair and maintenance to authorised repairers of its choosing." — Block Exemption Regulation 461/2010, Article 4

How Ace Tyres Meets Every Requirement

01

Manufacturer-Spec Oils

We use only OEM-specification engine oils for every make and model. We look up the manufacturer's exact oil grade — not a generic equivalent — and use it. Your engine gets what the handbook specifies.

Correct spec, every car
02

OEM-Grade Parts

All replacement parts meet or exceed the original equipment manufacturer's specification. Filters, plugs, and wear items are sourced from trusted suppliers to the exact grades your manufacturer requires.

Meets OEM standard
03

Service Book Stamped

Your physical service book is stamped and dated at every visit. We record the mileage, date, oil grade used, and parts replaced. This creates the documented proof the regulation requires.

Full paper trail
04

Digital Record Provided

After every service we email you a full digital service record listing every check, every part replaced, the oil grade used, and the technician's findings. Keep it with your car documents as permanent proof.

Emailed same day

Serviced at Ace Tyres — your warranty is fully protected

We've serviced hundreds of cars under manufacturer warranty without a single warranty issue. If a manufacturer ever questions your service record, your stamped book and digital record are legally sufficient proof of compliant servicing.

Don't ignore the signs

8 Warning Signs Your Car Needs a Service Now

Your car gives clear signals when it's overdue a service. Catching them early means a £169 full service rather than a £1,000+ repair bill. Here are the eight most important ones to know.

Book immediately
Book within 2 weeks
Monitor & book soon
01 Book immediately

Engine Warning Light

The most ignored dashboard light in the UK. An illuminated engine management light (MIL) means the engine ECU has detected a fault — ignoring it risks turning a minor fault into a major failure.

Likely means: Misfires, faulty sensors, emissions issue — needs OBD diagnostic scan
02 Book immediately

Oil Service Light On

When your oil service reminder or low oil pressure warning illuminates, your engine is running on degraded or insufficient oil. Engine components begin to wear without adequate lubrication within minutes.

Likely means: Oil change overdue or oil leak — don't delay, engine damage is expensive
03 Book immediately

Knocking or Grinding Noises

A knocking sound from the engine often signals low oil or worn bearings. Grinding when braking means brake pads are worn through to metal. Both worsen rapidly if ignored.

Likely means: Worn or failing components — the longer you drive, the higher the repair cost
04 Book immediately

Excessive Exhaust Smoke

Blue smoke = oil burning (worn seals/rings). White smoke = coolant entering combustion (head gasket). Black smoke = running too rich (fuel system fault). All three signal a service is overdue.

Likely means: Internal engine issue — book OBD scan and full inspection immediately
05 Within 2 weeks

Worse Fuel Economy

Filling up more often without driving more miles? Degraded engine oil, a blocked air filter, or worn spark plugs all increase fuel consumption. A service typically restores 10–15% fuel efficiency.

Likely means: Blocked filters or worn spark plugs — a full service usually fixes this
06 Within 2 weeks

Rough Idle or Stalling

If your car shakes when stationary, hesitates on acceleration, or cuts out at low speeds, the engine isn't running cleanly. Worn spark plugs, dirty fuel injectors, or a blocked air filter are common causes.

Likely means: Spark plugs or fuel system due for service — smooth running will return
07 Within 2 weeks

Vibration When Braking

A pulsing or shaking sensation through the brake pedal or steering wheel when you slow down usually means warped brake discs. This reduces braking efficiency and worsens quickly with use.

Likely means: Warped discs or worn pads — brake inspection needed before next MOT
08 Book soon

Overdue by Time or Mileage

If it's been over 12 months or 12,000 miles since your last service — even if nothing feels wrong — your oil has degraded, filters are blocked, and wear items need checking. Your car is running on borrowed time.

Likely means: Service is due — book now to avoid the signs above developing

One visit · Two jobs done

Service + MOT Together — Save Time, One Visit

Most drivers book their service and MOT separately, making two journeys and losing two half-days. At Ace Tyres you can do both on the same visit — and a service done before the MOT actually improves your chances of passing first time.

One Drop-Off, One Pick-Up

Drop your keys once. We run the service, then the MOT back-to-back. No second booking, no second journey, no second half-day off work.

Fewer MOT Failures

A service carried out before the MOT catches and fixes the issues most likely to cause a failure — tyres, brakes, lights, screenwash, oil level — before the tester sees the car.

Single Written Quote

One quote covers both. No surprises, no second approval needed mid-visit. You approve the combined cost before we start, and it doesn't change.

Leave Fully Legal & Serviced

Drive away with a valid MOT certificate, stamped service book, and full written report — everything your car needs for the next 12 months, done in a single visit.

How It Works — From Drop-Off to Driving Away

Step 01

Drop Your Car at Fengate

Drive in to Unit 6, Second Drove, PE1 5XA. We take your keys, confirm the written quote for both service and MOT, and you're free to go.

Free parking on-site No paperwork needed
Step 02

Service First, Then MOT

We carry out your service in full — oil, filters, brakes, tyres, fluids, lights. Then the MOT runs on a car that's already been checked and corrected. This is when we catch and fix MOT issues before the test.

Service: 2–3 hours MOT: 45–60 mins
Step 03

Drive Away — Fully Sorted

We call or WhatsApp you when it's ready. Collect your car with a valid MOT certificate, stamped service book, digital service record, and full written inspection report.

Same day Full documentation

Why Servicing Before the MOT Matters

The most common MOT failures in the UK — lights, tyres, brakes, screenwash — are all checked during a service. When your service comes first, we identify and fix those issues before the tester ever sees the car. That means no surprise failures, no re-test fees, and no second visit.

27%
of MOT failures are caused by issues directly checked and resolved during a full service — lights, tyres and brake wear

What the service fixes before the MOT sees it

Tyre tread & pressure — checked and corrected to manufacturer spec in service. Tyre failures = 12% of all MOT failures.
All exterior lights — tested in service. Lighting failures are the single biggest MOT failure category (26%).
Screenwash topped up — an empty reservoir fails the MOT. Always refilled during service.
Brake pad & disc check — brake condition is inspected in full during service, identifying any issues before the MOT brake test.
Wiper blades & washers — tested and replaced if needed during service. Both are checked during the MOT.
Full Service £169 from All makes · 65+ checks
Class 4 MOT £45 from DVSA approved
Combined from £214 One visit · Written quote first

Service + MOT in one visit — same day, from £214.

Call or WhatsApp and tell us you want both — we'll book a slot that covers the full day. Written quote before we start. Drive away fully sorted.

Peterborough's independent choice since 2019

Why Choose Ace Tyres — Independent vs Chain

Kwik Fit and Halfords are convenient — but convenience comes at a cost. An owner-run independent garage gives you something the nationals can't: accountability, honest advice, and someone who genuinely cares about your car.

National Chain Garage

Standard approach

Standardised service menus

Same checklist for every car regardless of make, age or condition. No flexibility around what your car actually needs.

Corporate pricing targets

Technicians on upsell targets. Additional work is recommended on commission — not always because it's needed.

Different mechanic every visit

High staff turnover means no one knows your car's history. Each visit starts from scratch.

National booking queues

Busy centres with limited slots. Same-day availability is rare and drop-in service is almost never possible.

Invoice surprises

Work is sometimes carried out and billed without explicit sign-off on each item. The final invoice can exceed the quoted price.

Ace Tyres Peterborough

★ 4.9 · 800+ reviews

Tailored to your car

We look up your car's exact manufacturer requirements. The right oil grade, the right parts, the right service interval for your specific model.

Honest recommendations only

We recommend work because it needs doing — not because of a sales target. If something can wait, we tell you so and note it on your report.

Consistent team, consistent care

Owner-run since 2019. The same experienced team services your car each time. We know your car's history because we built it.

Same-day slots, walk-ins welcome

We keep space for same-day bookings. No week-long waits, no corporate queues. Call or WhatsApp and we'll usually get you in today.

Written quote — price doesn't change

You approve the full quote before we start. Nothing is added, changed, or invoiced without your sign-off. The price you agree is the price you pay.

5 Reasons Peterborough Drivers Choose an Independent

Owner Accountability

When something goes wrong at a chain, you call a helpline. At Ace Tyres, you speak to the owner directly. That accountability changes how work gets done.

Fairer Pricing

No franchise fees, no national overheads, no shareholders. Our costs are lower — and we pass that saving on. Same quality parts, significantly lower price.

No Upsell Pressure

Our team has no sales quotas. We tell you what your car needs, what can wait, and what's optional. The recommendation matches the car — not a target.

Faster Turnaround

One site, focused team, no chain logistics. Most services are same-day. Drop off in the morning, drive away the same afternoon — consistently.

Warranty Preserved

We use manufacturer-spec oils and OEM-grade parts on every service. Your warranty is fully protected — and you save £150+ vs a dealer on the same work.

The financial case for regular servicing

How Regular Servicing Protects Your Car's Value

A service isn't just maintenance — it's an investment that pays back when you sell. A full service history can add £500–£2,000 to your car's resale price and makes it significantly easier to sell. Here's exactly how.

What Every Serious Buyer Checks First

Before a buyer makes an offer, they check three things. Service history is always one of them — and gaps in the record are the single most common reason buyers negotiate hard or walk away.

Service book stamps

A stamp per year showing garage name, date, mileage and oil type. Gaps between stamps are red flags — buyers assume the worst and negotiate accordingly.

Regularity of services

Consistent 12-month or 12,000-mile intervals show an owner who cared for the car. Irregular servicing suggests neglect and signals unknown mechanical risk.

Type of garage used

Independent garages are widely accepted — buyers care that the work was done, not where. Invoices and digital records from a named garage carry the same weight as dealer stamps.

Have been here a couple of times for tyres, always amazing customer service, recently went in for my MOT and they were just as helpful like always! Went through with me what was needed to be fixed for a re-test, provided a very reasonable price and fixed my car same day for me. Will always recommend. Electric & Hybrid Car Servicing — What's Different

Electric vehicles are often marketed as "almost maintenance-free" — but that's misleading. EVs still need regular servicing. The checks are different, but skipping them is just as risky as ignoring a petrol car's service light.

"My EV doesn't need servicing — there's no engine oil."

Partly true — but mostly misleading. You're right that there's no oil to change. But your EV still has brakes, tyres, a 12V battery, coolant for the battery pack, suspension, a cabin filter, lights and wipers. All of these wear out and all of them need regular inspection. The service is shorter and cheaper — but it's not optional.

Annual service still required

What EVs Still Need Serviced

These apply to all electric and hybrid vehicles

Tyre check — tread, condition, pressure

EVs are heavier and have more torque — they wear tyres faster than petrol equivalents.

Brake inspection — pads, discs, calipers

Regenerative braking reduces wear but doesn't eliminate it. Calipers can seize from underuse.

12V auxiliary battery check

Separate from the main HV pack. The most common roadside failure on EVs — and easily missed.

Battery cooling system & coolant

The HV battery pack uses its own coolant circuit. Needs condition checking and eventual replacement.

Cabin (pollen) filter

EVs have the same HVAC systems as petrol cars. Cabin filter blocks and needs annual replacement.

Suspension, steering & CV joints

EV suspension carries more weight. Wear items need checking on the same schedule as petrol.

Lights, wipers & screenwash

No difference from petrol. All checked and replaced as needed on every annual service.

What EVs Don't Need

These items are not required on pure electric vehicles

Engine oil change

No combustion engine — no oil to change. This is the biggest saving vs petrol.

Oil filter replacement

No oil system means no oil filter. Not applicable to pure EVs.

Spark plugs

No ignition system in a pure EV. Not required.

Timing belt inspection

No camshaft or timing belt in an electric motor. Eliminated entirely.

Fuel filter

No fuel system. Not applicable.

Exhaust system service

No exhaust on a pure EV. Nothing to inspect or replace.

Air filter (engine)

No combustion means no engine air intake. Cabin filter still required though.

Hybrid & PHEV extras

Hybrid & PHEV — Additional Requirements

Hybrid vehicles combine a petrol engine with an electric motor — which means they need everything a petrol car needs, plus the EV-specific checks above. The petrol engine still requires oil changes, spark plugs and all standard service items. On top of that, hybrids have unique systems that need specialist attention.

Petrol engine oil & filter

Still required on the combustion side, same as a standard petrol service.

Regenerative brake system check

The blended braking system (friction + regen) needs specific inspection beyond a standard check.

Separate coolant circuit for the HV battery pack — condition checked and replaced on schedule.

HV battery coolant circuit

12V & HV battery condition

Both batteries need condition testing — the 12V for starting systems, HV for charge capacity.

Different car, different needs

Service by Car Age — New, Mid-Life & Older Cars

A three-year-old car under warranty has completely different service priorities from a ten-year-old car with 90,000 miles. Here's exactly what to focus on at each stage of your car's life — and which service level we recommend.

Under 3 Years Old

New Car — Warranty Period

Your car is new, mechanically sound and under manufacturer warranty. The priority is protecting that warranty while building a service record — without paying dealer prices.

Recommended: Full Service · £169

Stick to manufacturer service intervals

Check your handbook for the exact interval. Never exceed it during the warranty period — late services can give grounds for dispute.

OEM-spec oil is non-negotiable

We look up the exact oil grade your manufacturer specifies. A generic "5W-30" won't do — it has to be the right spec for your engine.

Service book stamp every visit

Builds your FSH from day one. A car with full history from new is worth significantly more when you sell.

Save £150+ vs your dealer

Identical oil grade, identical parts, identical stamp in your book — at a fraction of the dealer's labour rate. Legally identical service.

3 to 8 Years Old

Mid-Life — Peak Ownership

The most common ownership stage on UK roads. Your car is out of warranty, FSH is actively building resale value, and the first significant wear items are approaching.

Recommended: Full Service · £169

Annual full service — don't skip it

Engine oil degrades faster as mileage builds. A missed service at this stage causes more damage than at any other — and it shows in the history gap.

Check timing belt status

Most timing belts are due at 5–7 years or 60–80k miles. Failure destroys the engine. We'll advise on your specific model's schedule.

Brake pads & tyres entering wear zone

First brake pad replacements are typical between 40,000–60,000 miles. We record thickness at every service so you can plan ahead.

Every stamp adds resale value

Cars in this age band with full history sell for £800–£1,500 more than identical cars without — the stamps you collect now pay dividends at sale time.

8 Years Old or More

Older Car — High Mileage Care

High-mileage cars need more attention, not less. More wear items, more to check — but a well-maintained older car is still reliable and still worth servicing properly.

Recommended: Major Service · £289

Consider 6-month oil changes

High-mileage engines build contaminants faster. An interim every 6 months supplements the annual full service and significantly extends engine life.

Suspension & bushings need more scrutiny

Shock absorbers, control arm bushings and anti-roll bar links are common failures on older cars. Our major service covers all of these.

Pre-MOT service strongly advised

Older cars fail their MOT more often. A service before the test catches and fixes the most common failure points before the tester sees them.

Keep building the history

A stamped service book on a high-mileage car tells buyers the car was cared for regardless of age — and makes it easier to sell at any price point.

The cost of doing nothing

What Happens If You Skip a Service

A service costs £169. Skipping it doesn't save £169 — it gambles £3,000 or more on the assumption that nothing will go wrong. Here's exactly what happens inside your car when regular servicing stops.

Full service cost
£169

Every 12 months. Oil changed, filters replaced, 65+ checks, brakes inspected, OBD scan. Service book stamped. Warranty preserved. Same-day.

Typical repair after neglect
£3,000+

Engine oil sludge, seized components, timing belt failure or MOT rejection — any one of which costs more than years of regular servicing.

The Slow Decline — What's Happening Under the Bonnet

Service overdue

1–3 Months Over

Engine oil starts to thicken and lose its lubricating properties
Fuel economy drops 5–10% as filters become partially blocked
Brake fluid absorbs more moisture — boiling point falls
No visible symptoms yet — the damage is invisible from the outside

Significantly overdue

3–6 Months Over

Oil sludge begins forming — blocking oil passages and starving bearings
Air filter now restricting airflow, engine struggles for power
Wear items (brakes, tyres) have been growing unchecked — status unknown
MOT failure risk rising — lights, tyres and brakes most likely failure points

Dangerously overdue

6–12 Months Over

Engine management warning light likely now on — sludge blocking sensors
Brake pads may be metal-on-metal — grinding noise, failed MOT
Brake fluid may boil under heavy braking — spongy pedal, extended stopping distance
Resale value now down £500–£2,000 due to missing stamps

Failure territory

12+ Months Over

Engine seizure risk — oil sludge has destroyed bearing surfaces
Timing belt (if due) is years past replacement — catastrophic failure imminent
Fuel cost increase of 15–25% over correctly serviced equivalent
Car is now significantly harder to sell at any price — or SORN'd and abandoned

The 6 Most Common Consequences of a Skipped Service

Engine Oil Sludge

Critical

Degraded oil oxidises and turns to thick sludge. It blocks the narrow oil galleries that feed bearings and moving parts. Once sludge forms, it cannot be flushed out — the engine needs a full rebuild or replacement.

Repair cost £1,500 – £5,000+

Brake System Failure

Critical

Moisture-saturated brake fluid boils under hard braking, forming vapour bubbles that compress instead of transmitting force — the pedal goes to the floor. Metal-on-metal pad wear destroys discs beyond resurfacing.

Repair cost £400 – £1,400

Timing Belt Failure

Critical — engine destroying

A timing belt that snaps while driving destroys the engine within milliseconds — valves and pistons collide with catastrophic force. There is no warning. One moment the car is running; the next, the engine is scrap.

Repair cost £1,500 – £5,000+

MOT Failure

High risk

The most common MOT failure causes — lights, tyres, brakes, screenwash — are all found and fixed during a service. Without one, the tester sees the car as-is: worn brakes, blocked lights, under-inflated tyres. Re-test fees, parts and labour add up fast.

Typical failure cost £150 – £800

Resale Value Drop

Certain loss

Every missing service stamp is visible to any buyer. One gap is suspicious; two is a red flag. Cars without full service history sell for £500–£2,000 less than identical cars with complete records — and take 27% longer to sell.

Value lost at sale £500 – £2,000+

Rising Fuel Costs

Ongoing drain

A blocked air filter forces the engine to work harder. Degraded oil increases friction. Worn spark plugs misfire. Together, an unserviced car uses 10–20% more fuel — costing the average driver an extra £200–£400 per year at the pump before any breakdown occurs.

Extra annual fuel cost £200 – £400/yr

The fix is simple — and it costs £169.

Every scenario above is preventable with a £169 full service done once a year. The oil change alone prevents sludge. The brake check prevents pad failure. The tyre and light inspection prevents MOT failures. A service doesn't cost money — it saves it. Book today and we'll confirm your slot in 60 seconds.

Diesel owners — this section is for you

Diesel Servicing — DPF, Injectors & What's Different

Diesel engines need the same annual service as petrol — but they also have diesel-specific systems that petrol cars don't have at all. Get these wrong and the repairs cost far more than the service that would have prevented them.

Diesel Engine Service

Standard items + diesel-specific extras

Engine oil change — Low SAPS only

Must use Low SAPS diesel oil — standard oil clogs and destroys the DPF faster.

Oil filter replacement

Same as petrol — replaced at every service.

Fuel filter + water separator Diesel only

Critical for diesels — water in diesel fuel causes injector failure. Replaced on schedule.

DPF condition check Diesel only

DPF soot load checked via OBD. Early warning of clogging means we can advise a forced regen before you need a £1,500 replacement.

Glow plugs inspection Diesel only

Diesel's equivalent of spark plugs. Failing glow plugs cause hard cold starts and rough running in winter.

Injector condition & advisory Diesel only

Diesel injectors are precision components. Performance decline or leaks noted and advised before they cause major damage.

Air filter, brakes, tyres, lights, fluids

All standard items checked exactly as on a petrol service.

Petrol Engine Service

Standard service items — no DPF or fuel filter

Engine oil change — standard spec

Manufacturer-grade petrol oil — no DPF compatibility required.

Oil filter replacement

Standard — replaced at every service.

Spark plugs (full service)

Replaced on full and major service — no glow plugs on petrol.

Air filter replacement

Replaced on full and major service.

OBD diagnostic scan

Reads stored fault codes — same as diesel.

Brakes, tyres, lights, fluids, suspension

Full safety inspection — identical to diesel service.

Service book stamp + written report

Identical documentation — physical stamp and digital record.

The DPF Explained — and Why It Fails

A Diesel Particulate Filter traps soot from the exhaust before it enters the atmosphere. It cleans itself automatically on long motorway runs — a process called regeneration. Short-journey city driving prevents regeneration from completing, causing the filter to clog progressively until the warning light comes on. Here's the three-stage progression:

Stage 1 — Normal

DPF Healthy & Regenerating

Soot captured during driving
Passive regen burns soot on motorway runs
No warning light, normal fuel economy
OBD soot load within normal range at service

Stage 2 — Warning

DPF Clogging — Light On

DPF warning light illuminated on dashboard
30–40 minute motorway drive may clear it
If light stays on after drive — forced regen needed
Fuel economy noticeably worse

Stage 3 — Failure

DPF Blocked — Replacement Due

Engine goes into limp mode — restricted power
Motorway drive no longer clears it
Professional forced regen or replacement required
Risk of oil dilution damaging engine
Annual diesel service £169

DPF soot load checked every visit — early warning before Stage 2

DPF forced regen £100–£250

Professional active regeneration — clears Stage 2 clogging

DPF replacement £1,000–£2,500

Stage 3 fully blocked filter — the cost of ignoring Stage 1 & 2

Short Journey Warning — Why City Driving Kills a Diesel

A diesel engine needs to reach and maintain high exhaust temperatures to burn off the soot trapped in the DPF. This only happens on sustained higher-speed driving. If the majority of your driving is short urban trips under 10 miles, the DPF never gets hot enough to regenerate — and it will clog progressively, no matter how good your service history is.

Our advice: if you cover mostly short local trips, consider a 30–40 minute motorway run every 2–3 weeks to allow passive regeneration. Or speak to us at your next service — if your driving pattern is heavily urban, we'll advise whether diesel still makes sense for your lifestyle, or whether a petrol or hybrid might be a better fit going forward.

Diesel Needs Low SAPS Oil — Not Standard Engine Oil

Regular engine oil contains additives that contaminate and block the DPF over time. Diesel vehicles with a DPF must use Low SAPS oil — Low Sulphated Ash, Phosphorus and Sulphur. We look up the exact grade your manufacturer specifies and use nothing else.

C1
Lowest SAPS — Toyota, some Fords. Maximises DPF life.
C2
Low SAPS — Citroën, Peugeot, some Fords & Volvos.
C3
Mid SAPS — VAG group (VW, Audi, Skoda, SEAT), BMW, Mercedes.
C4
Low SAPS, lower viscosity — selected Renault & Nissan engines.

Wrong oil = accelerated DPF failure

Using a standard "5W-30" petrol oil in a DPF-equipped diesel deposits high-ash residue with every oil change. After 2–3 services, the DPF is partially blocked before it ever gets clogged from driving.

We always use the correct grade for your car

We check your spec before every service

We look up your registration and manufacturer oil specification before opening a single drum. The right grade is documented on your service record — proof of correct servicing if any DPF warranty claim ever arises.

Spec noted on every service record
Diesel service specialists

Book your diesel service today — correct oil, DPF checked, from £169.

Low SAPS oil to your manufacturer's exact grade. DPF soot load checked via OBD. Fuel filter and water separator replaced on schedule. Written quote before we start. Same-day slots available.

Car Servicing Peterborough — Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about booking, pricing, what's included, and how car servicing at an independent garage works.

How much is a car service in Peterborough?
At Ace Tyres Peterborough: Interim from £129 · Full from £169 · Major from £289. These are fixed prices — the quote you approve before we start is the price you pay. No hidden extras, no surprises on the invoice.
Interim vs full vs major — which do I need?
Interim (£129): every 6 months or 6,000 miles — ideal for high-mileage drivers between annual services. Full (£169): every 12 months or 12,000 miles — the standard annual service for most drivers. Major (£289): every 24 months or 24,000 miles — the comprehensive 2-year service including cabin filter, fuel filter and coolant flush. Not sure? Call us and we'll tell you in 60 seconds.
How long does a car service take?
Interim: 1.5–2 hours · Full: 2–3 hours · Major: 3–4 hours. All services are completed the same day. You can wait in our reception or drop your keys and collect when we call.
Does servicing at an independent void my manufacturer warranty?
No — this is a common myth. Under Block Exemption Regulation 461/2010, a manufacturer cannot void your warranty because you used a qualified independent garage, provided manufacturer-spec parts and oils are used and records are kept. At Ace Tyres we meet all three requirements on every service. Full explanation here.
What does a full car service include?
A full service covers 65+ checks: engine oil change, oil and air filter replacement, spark plugs (petrol), full brake inspection, brake fluid condition test, tyre tread and pressure, steering and suspension, CV joints, battery, OBD diagnostic scan, all fluid levels, lights, wipers, exhaust visual, service book stamp and a full written report. See our detailed checklist for the complete list.
How often should I service my car?
The standard recommendation is a full service every 12 months or 12,000 miles — whichever comes first. Drivers covering more than 12,000 miles a year should add an interim at the 6-month mark. A major service is due every 24 months or 24,000 miles. Check your manufacturer's handbook for your specific model's schedule.
Can I book a service and MOT together?
Yes — and we recommend it. We carry out the service first, which means lights, tyres, screenwash and brakes are all checked and corrected before the MOT tester sees the car. This reduces failure risk. One drop-off, one pick-up, both done same day. Service from £169 + MOT from £45.
What is the difference between a service and an MOT?
A service is preventative maintenance — oil, filters, mechanical health checks. It keeps your car reliable and preserves its value. An MOT is a legal annual safety check that your car is roadworthy. The MOT does not change your oil or replace filters. Your car needs both — they do completely different jobs.
Will you stamp my service book?
Yes, always. We stamp your physical service book at every visit — date, mileage, oil grade and work carried out. We also email you a full digital service record the same day. Both are accepted by manufacturers and buyers as proof of compliant, documented servicing.
Can I drop off and collect same day?
Yes. Most customers drop their car in the morning and collect the same day. We call or WhatsApp when it's ready — usually well within the estimated duration. Collection up to 6pm weekdays, up to 4pm Saturdays. Or wait in our reception with free tea and coffee if you prefer.
What car makes and models do you service?
All makes and models — Volkswagen, BMW, Ford, Audi, Vauxhall, Nissan, Toyota, Kia, Mercedes, Hyundai, SEAT, Skoda, Peugeot, Renault, Honda, MINI, Mazda, Fiat and all other common UK brands. We also service new cars under manufacturer warranty, electric vehicles, and hybrids.
Do you use OEM-spec parts and manufacturer oils?
Yes. We look up the exact oil grade specified by your manufacturer and use that grade on every service — not a generic equivalent. All replacement parts meet or exceed OEM specification. This is essential for preserving your manufacturer warranty and is documented on your service record.
How do I know if my car needs a service now?
Key signs: engine warning light on, oil service reminder illuminated, unusual knocking or grinding noise, poor fuel economy, rough idle or stalling, vibrations when braking, exhaust smoke. If it has been more than 12 months or 12,000 miles since your last service, book regardless of how the car feels — degraded oil causes damage before symptoms appear.
What happens if I skip a car service?
Degraded engine oil causes internal wear. Blocked filters reduce power and increase fuel consumption. Unchecked brake wear becomes a safety risk. Missing service stamps reduce resale value by £500–£2,000. The cost of a skipped service is always higher than the service itself — a seized engine costs £3,000+, a full service costs £169.
Does service history affect my car's resale value?
Significantly. A full service history can add £500–£2,000 to your car's value and makes it sell around 27% faster. One in three buyers won't purchase without verifiable service history. We stamp your book and email a digital record after every visit, giving you a complete documented history that any buyer or dealer will accept.
